Barf diets, or raw dog food, has been the topic of some debate among dog owners. It seems that many people are going against the advise of their more conventional veterinarians. Instead, many dog owners are switching their dog over to a raw dog food diet, or Barf Diet. They tend to be following the advice of those with a more holistic approach to maintaining health. Holistic veterinarians have long known the benefits of a proper dog diet and the nutritional needs of canines. Looking to canines in the wild for examples, raw feeders use the canines evolutionary diet as a foundation to work from. The BARF diet is meant to do exactly that. Barf diets attempt to mimic the diet of a canine in the wild as closely as possible. Raw organic meats and shredded vegetables are the primary ingredients in the diet. Grains are not included as they have not been a part of a canines evolutionary diet, and therefore are avoided in the BARF diet.
